Duvet covers are a form of bedding used as a blanket, usually filled with goose down or feathers. While duvets became popular in the United States in the latter part of the 20th century, this bedding has been the choice form of cover in Europe for centuries. While the duvet is less commonly found as a cover in U.S. households today, a duvet set can still be purchased in any regular bedding size from twin to king, including California king, throughout the country. Specialty covers can be found as well, with different sizing or materials. A silk duvet is still a popular bedding option, and duvets can also be ordered oversized so you get a couple of extra inches of warmth.

Duvets can also be used as beds and have been in the past. In fact, the original duvets were sets of two, one under and one over, developed in rural Europe to insulate from the cold. And though technology has brought revolutions like the electric blanket, there is still no better natural insulator than a duvet set.
